A collection of superb box puzzles

Published by  Snapbreak, the same publishers of Doors: Paradox and Doors: Origins, Boxes: Lost Fragments is a captivating puzzle game wherein you play as a thief whose latest heist takes place in a grand and lavish mansion. You will encounter a plethora of intricately designed boxes, all needing to be figured out and opened.

Top Recommended Alternative

Boxes: Lost Fragments presents a first-person perspective gameplay that immerses you into the mystery right off the bat. Each box can be inspected as thoroughly as possible by rotating the camera angle or zooming in. Replaying levels may not be fun, though, as the enigma has been solved already.

With a handful of boxes to solve

Albeit only currently available for pre-registration, Boxes: Lost Fragments has a free, playable demo comprising two levels. Each puzzle can take up to five minutes to solve — depending on the player’s puzzle-solving abilities, of course — and are all elaborate in nature. Most steps can be intuitive, such as picking up items on the table or twisting some dials, but some moves require a bit more brainpower, especially the sliding and twisting puzzles.

The screen doesn’t have too many distractions, as well, so you can focus solely on the box you’re trying to open. Items you’ve picked up are shown on the right side of the screen and you can interact with them separately — they can be opened to reveal another key item or just be inspected on a larger scale. Meanwhile, the menu and hints can be accessed on the left side of the screen.

Besides the addictive gameplay, another aspect that sets this game apart is its gorgeous 3D graphics and animations. Every box possesses a distinctive yet well-detailed design, filled with buttons, levers, keyholes, and other nooks and crannies that are fun to explore. Animations involving lights are mesmerizing to watch, as well, and the resounding clicks of things falling into place whenever you make the correct move are deeply satisfying.

A must-play

Beckoning players into an immersive experience of thievery and tinkering with precious boxes, Boxes: Lost Fragments stands as a testament to Snapbreak’s commitment to delivering enthralling and mind-bending puzzle titles. Each complex level features a challenging yet impressive and satisfying puzzle to be solved. While the replayability may diminish after the initial success, the sense of triumph gleaned from solving these elaborate puzzles is undeniable.
